Overview

The project aimed to address the ongoing threats posed by invasive species, specifically Turbina vine, in Mabi Forest remnants in seven sites, and enhance the integrity and health of the Mabi Forest ecosystem. 

Project activites

• Engagement with stakeholders including Traditional Owners and Landcare groups.

• Conduct the first round of Turbina vine control using hand-pulling, cut & paint, and blanket spraying methods across the 50+ hectare area.
• Review progress of the first treatment run, adjust methodology if necessary, and plan for the second treatment round.
• Conduct the second round of Turbina vine control, following up on areas not fully treated, or regrowth from first treatment.
• Continuous monitoring during and after treatments to track recovery of native flora and re-growth of Turbina vine. (Terrain NRM)
• Final assessment of the project’s success in controlling Turbina vine and restoring forest health, including a report to stakeholders

The project is funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust Program and delivered by Terrain NRM, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners Panel, with Barron Catchment Care contracted to undertake the project.
